frequently asked questions
What is Skilled Nursing?
Skilled Nursing care is specifically for those who are unable to care for themselves after a hospital stay or due to chronic disease or injury. At The Harbors, the Skilled Nursing neighborhood at our Chicago care facility, compassionate skilled nursing services are provided around the clock by licensed professionals. We offer custom programs that encourage maximum social interaction and preserve dignity.

How is Skilled Nursing different from Assisted Living?
Skilled Nursing is the right choice for those who require attentive medical care but don’t have the acute needs that make hospitalization necessary. It provides a higher level of care than other care options like assisted living, whether the need is for more hands-on assistance with routine activities, rehabilitation services, or long-term care.

What’s included in Skilled Nursing care?
Typically, Skilled Nursing includes one or a combination of the following therapies to help a person maintain or regain their highest level of functioning:

  • Physical therapy
  • Occupational therapy
  • Speech therapy

Long-term Skilled Nursing care may also include IV therapy, feeding tube administration, wound care and the monitoring of vital signs and medical equipment, among others.
