Who We Are
Who We Are
Our Mission
We are a non-profit, our Foundation has a history of serving Chicago for over 160 years. Our values connect us and define our vision.
We believe in ageless spirits and in abundant living. We believe in continuing the legacy of our charitable purpose by responding to the evolving needs both inside and beyond our four walls. We believe in the importance of inclusivity and in the power of an engaged and expansive community. We believe that every person has something to contribute and that we can accomplish far more together.
Our Story
We are guided by values, not profit. Founded in 1858, The Admiral Foundation is Chicago’s oldest nonprofit organization dedicated to senior living, using innovative and responsive solutions that address the needs of all Chicago area seniors. We have a long history of seniors of all faiths and nationalities. Drawing its name from the historic hotel that once occupied the corner of Foster Avenue and Marine Drive on the border of Chicago’s Edgewater and Uptown neighborhoods, The Admiral at the Lake is situated in one of the most culturally stimulating and diverse communities in the United States.
- Continuous ownership by the same organization
- No profit motive to raise monthly fees, which lowers operating costs
- Direction by a dedicated board of directors
- Our foundation supports residents who outlive their financial resources.
We are guided by an experienced volunteer board of directors comprised of Admiral residents, civic and professional leaders.
A Richer Life
The Admiral at the Lake is a maintenance-free senior living solution that offers residents more time and opportunities to pursue their favorite interests and explore their lives. We are a continuing care retirement community (CCRC) and a Lifecare community serving those 62 years and older.
Our residents come from nearly every walk of life and hail from Chicago, the suburbs, and as far away as New York, California, and Florida. The Admiral provides a quality environment that supports an ageless spirit, promotes health and wellness, and fosters engagement, collaboration, and liberating choices. Residents design and direct the recreational, intellectual, social, and spiritual life of the community.
