So Many Possibilities for
Purposeful Living!

Beyond Busy. A Life of Purpose

At The Admiral at the Lake, we reach beyond the typical activities for seniors that merely keep you busy. Led by the stewardship and direction of residents, we create opportunities to fill your life with purpose, fulfillment and meaning. Here, you’ll find the people, programs, amenities and spaces that open a world of enriching possibilities.

We Set the Stage for Connection

Our community has been designed to nurture exploration, curiosity, education, and creativity, outfitted with spaces dedicated to these pursuits, including:

  • Creative arts studios for classes, instruction, programs, or private studio time
  • Gathering room for clubs and organizations
  • Stage in the gathering room for drama, musical and theatrical performances
  • Woodshop outfitted with tools, machines and materials
  • Movie theater for viewing films, documentaries, presentations and more
  • Green spaces and gardens
  • Formal library

Lifelong Learning

With over 300 intellectually curious residents, the mission of our Lifelong Learning program is to help enhance knowledge and understanding by providing access to informative courses and lectures, both one-time and in series.

The Lifelong Learning committee regularly hosts distinguished speakers from some of Chicago’s most prestigious institutions. Experienced lecturers cover various interesting topics, including:

  • Literature
  • Science
  • Architecture
  • History
  • Current affairs
  • And more

Share Your Expertise

Our Lifelong Learning program also offers opportunities for residents to share their knowledge, serving as teachers and mentors. A perfect example is our commitment to the Buddy Program with the nearby William C. Goudy Technology Academy. In this program, residents serve as “reading buddies,” helping third graders from the Goudy School read and discuss new ideas. Residents and students flourish from this shared experience.

Green Spaces for Green Thumbs

Nurture your green thumb in the variety of gardens and green spaces inside and out of our community as a member of the Garden Committee. The resident-led Garden Committee is active in the preserving our green spaces and gardens – even one that has been designated an official Certified Wildlife Habitat® site by the National Wildlife Federation.

The gardens and green spaces can be used for multiple functions, including recreational and fitness programming in addition to general socialization. Residents engage in these spaces through beekeeping, exercise and meditation, and enjoy these areas as additional outdoor living spaces where picnics, reunions and events can be hosted.

We’ve Even Got Our Own Pollinators!

On the very top of The Admiral sits our very own beehives buzzing with honeybees!

Under the careful management of Best Bees, our beehives are thriving. These busy little pollinators help keep our gardens green and growing – and they produce pure, raw honey.
