Are you ready for independent senior living?
As this new stage in your life begins, The Admiral at the Lake believes that where you live matters. There are many factors that go into choosing a community, and if you decide that it is time to make what community you choose to stay with once the decision to no longer live at home is made.
In order to make the best choice, here are a few questions to help you make the best selection. Some of the questions you can ask yourself are: what is the state of my physical mobility, what do I value in a community, do I qualify for senior living, and when is the right time for me to take this next step?
Assessing your needs
Before joining a senior living community, we suggest assessing your physical state and level of mobility with your primary care physician and family. Before making the decision to transition to a new assisted living community be sure to ask yourself what kind of assistance you are seeking. For example, are you looking for help with daily activities such as bathing, dressing, or remembering to take medication or simply to live in a community with other residents in the same age demographic?
The Admiral at the Lake’s staff includes skilled nurses who are trained to take care of the residents and guide them in maintaining overall health and can help with any medically-related questions. Studies have shown that depression is the most prevalent mental health problem among assisted living communities and our staff understands that a successful long term senior living community is built on social interaction, a homelike, and setting, and prioritizes superb health care.
Choosing the perfect senior living community
At The Admiral at the Lake, we value each resident and believe that a flourishing community is of utmost importance, and plays a vital role in maintaining overall wellbeing. We offer a variety of programs and community events, including the Lifelong Learning program, a resident-led committee, that provides residents with educational opportunities, including lectures and classes. We encourage our residents to learn new skills, practice social, and continue to foster an active learning community. In the past, the committee invited experts to speak on a variety of subjects like literature, arts, science, architecture, music, and history.
Many seniors fear that by moving to a living community they will lose their independence, but we confidently say that that is never the case at The Admiral at the Lake. If anything, at a residential community, residents gain independence by reducing the responsibility of maintaining daily household tasks. You get the benefit of your own home without the hassle of maintenance of clearing your driveway of snow during the winter months or fixing a broken stove or clogged drain. Many communities include yard maintenance and basic maintenance issues, which will save you both time and energy.
